Why do you feel this person deserves to be honored? : Mike Povero, 91 years old, has lived in Los Osos since the mid 1960’s. Mike’s wife Kathey, also a dedicated volunteer, passed away in 2022. Long before and since Kathey’s passing, Mike, a retired fire chief, has been faithfully coordinating People Helping People’s Wednesday food giveaways at the South Bay Community Center. In rain or shine, each winter Mike can be found locally ringing the bell for the Salvation Army . Mikes quiet and sometimes gruff exterior hides a great big heart inside that chest of his. A lifetime of dedicated service to his community and to humanity deserves recognition and appreciation.
